Students at Dieterich Elementary just completed an all-school collaborative art projects in an effort to make the world a better place.
The art teacher, Sara White, and principal, Paula Ek, were inspired to take on the project after seeing it completed at another school in Indiana which was then shared on social media.
The students heard the story, “Only One You” by Linda Krantz. The story is about a fish who receives some inspirational advice from his parents. The last line of the book states “There is only one you in this great big world. Make it a better place.” This was the premise for the project. Students discussed how they could help make the world a better place. They were to create a rock that represented themselves. The rock is to serve as a reminder that even the smallest fish in the sea can make an impact. The students were also making the world a better place by making their school and community beautiful by sharing their artwork.
