“I see the challenges of our community but I also see the amazing possibilities of this community”
-Anita Lewis, Find Your Future
As an elected member of the Kane County Board who sits on the county’s Jobs committee, long time East Aurora resident, Anita Lewis saw a need for trained, involved and engaged young people to be seizing opportunities in local industries and filling current gaps in the county job market. After a productive meeting with EA Superintendent, Dr. Jennifer Norrell and Director of Middle and Secondary College and Career Readiness, Asa Gordon, “Find Your Future” was born.
Originally branded as “Get a Job Wednesdays”, Find Your Future held programming at the High School every other week throughout the Fall semester. Lewis’ group has scheduled professionals from area manufacturing industries, trade organizations, law enforcement, and local governance to meet with East students and expose them to different career pathways. Not only are students encouraged to engage with different fields or possibilities than they might have previously considered, but they also have the invaluable experience of networking with local leaders within those industries, some of whom may be in position to directly connect interested students to the hiring or training process. The benefits of facilitating this exposure far extends beyond the county or local economy. Find Your Future recognizes that connecting the right student with right opportunity can be potentially life-changing.
Find Your Future is currently in discussion with the District to determine Spring semester programming. On November 30, they will be hosting the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) in the CCC during all lunch periods. All interested students are encouraged to attend.
